Why Merino Wool – properties that make the difference

Merino Wool naturally regulates temperature. Tiny air pockets in the fibre trap body heat when it's cold and release excess warmth during exertion. That makes it perfect for activities with shifting intensity – from the chairlift to the slope, from the climb to the view at the top.

The fibre absorbs up to 30 per cent of its weight in moisture without feeling wet against the skin. Moisture is transported away and evaporates from the surface, keeping you dry and warm even during prolonged exertion. Keratin in the fibres prevents bacterial growth, so garments stay fresh far longer than synthetic alternatives. Air overnight, wear again – perfect when the washing machine is far away.

Merino fibres measure 17–22 microns – far softer than traditional wool. No itch, no irritation, even directly against sensitive skin. That's why Merino Wool works as a base layer next to the body, whether in socks, base layers or beanies.

Seger has been knitting in Merino Wool since 1947. Our trekking socks combine high wool content with terry cushioning underfoot. The ski socks contain up to 85 per cent Merino Wool for maximum warmth inside the boot. The running socks deliver Merino Wool’s properties in a thin, lightweight profile. Base layers come in three weights – from 150g for active days to 240g for extreme cold. Beanies range from pure Merino Wool to blends with acrylic for added shape retention.

Merino Wool is renewable and biodegradable. Sheep produce new wool every year. In an age of synthetic alternatives, it’s a material that works with nature, not against it.
